I rasn out of the light gray paint on Sunday, so I had to wait until today to buy another quart. The Canard is now painted, and I also did a couple touchups on the fuselage. Looks very good.

I didn't get any work done on the plane last weekend, "Honey Do's", New Laminant floor in the kitchen and digging fence posts.
Berkut Landing Gear Controller
I spent a couple days during the week updating "Waiter's Landing Gear Controller" for the Berkut. I put together a simulator to assist with the initial software testing. I then modify the initial "IO Assignment"code so the controller software will work in my plane. The actual code is then uploaded into my plane where I can undergo extensive testing using a fully functional landing gear system.
The fuselage exterior and canopy paint are now complete. There is still some painting to do on the interior, and the cowls.
I received the fuel injection system from Airflow Performance. The system appears to be very high quality and excellent workmanship. I've been reviewing the documentation the last couple days. I started fit checking the components.
13 MAY 2007 HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
Finish rigging and mounting the rudders. 1) Final filling of minor pinholes and sandpaper scratching on the intakes. 2) Clearance checking between the intake and the canopy when its open. There is about a 1/2 inch clearance when the canopy is all the way open. 3) I had some imperfections on the fuselage where the fuel sumps used to be. I refilled these on both sides and primed them to get ready for paint. 4) Likewise, the cooling intakes are now filled, contoured and primed. These will need a little wet sanding then they'll be ready for paint. I probably won't paint the aft part of the fuselage until I get the cowling completed. I'm hoping to install the wings this week so I can work on the cowl. The Fuselage, canard, and the exterier of the canopy frame are all sanded and ready for final paint.
6 MAY 2007 AILERON - RUDDER INSTALL
1) This is the original rudder cable coming out the original cable conduit. 2) The new internal flush bellhorn mounts using the original external bellhorn bolt holes. 3) This view is with the rudder laying down sideways. I used a steel countersunk washer to clamp tightly the rudder cable. Not shown here, I had to grind the surface (bottom of photo) of the washer as it was rubbing on the bottom of the stabalizer when I inserted it into the bellhorn cavity. Note also that the cable goes through a slot in the bellhorn. This slot allows the cable to be inserted or removed, and also "captures" the cable so it doesn't get tangled or twisted on the end of the bellhorn. An AN100 thimble (like a miniature pully) is in the slot, the AN100 is resting on a thin stainless washer. The AN100 and washer are held in place by a cleves pin. 4) This is the same as photo #3, but now the rudder is turned straight up and down, and ready to slide into the cavity. A helper is pulling on the cable (from the engine compartment end) to keep a little tension on the cable while ththe rudder is installed on the stabalizer. The ailerons are reinstalled and rigged. I replaced the original stainless screws with countersunk stainless screws. This should reduce drag by about .000001%, but hey, every little bit helps, and they look better. The right rudder is complete, I'm still working on the left. I installed new cable in the existing conduit. The biggest time consumer was fit checking the new flush bellcrank, and shimming it to get the maximum possible throw of the rudder.
5 MAY 2007, WING PAINT COMPLETE
The top ofthe winds are now painted. This is the camo scheem that resembles that of an F16. The ailerons and rudders need to be reinstalled. There are a couple runs that need to be cleaned up and a small area on the left trailing edge that paint did not stick. These are fairly easy to fix.
